Simon Torpy

Accredited Exercise Physiologist

I grew up in Wahroonga, Sydney where I developed my passion for exercise and played sports such as Rugby union and cricket, competed in athletics and started weightlifting. After many injuries such as a broken foot and torn shoulder muscles, I have hung up the footy boots and stuck to running and strength training. Because of my passion for exercise, when it was time to choose a career path it was a no brainer, I enrolled in a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology at The University of Sydney.

During my time of study I also completed a CERT III (gym instructor) and IV (personal trainer) in fitness and began working as a personal trainer, starting my own mobile company and also working in a gym. I was exposed to many different musculoskeletal injuries during this time and am especially experienced in the management of knee, shoulder and lower back pain.

Towards the end of my studies I was hired as an Exercise Scientist by a Mobile Exercise Physiology company where I worked with a variety of different people with autoimmune, cardiovascular, mental health, metabolic and musculoskeletal conditions.

After finishing my degree I decided to pack my bags and move to Whistler, a ski town in Canada, to work as an Exercise Physiologist in a gym for six months. I enjoyed snowboarding, trail running and hiking over there, encountering many bears, and seeing the most beautiful views in the mountain ranges. My other hobbies are road running, going to the beach, golfing, playing tennis, skateboarding and traveling.

My aim is to help people achieve their goals through the implementation of exercise into their daily routine and develop a personalised exercise strategy which takes all factors of ones life into account. I believe that it’s never too late for anyone to begin their exercise journey and that quality of life can be significantly enhanced because of it.
