Benefits of exercise for DVA clients
Today, Longevity Exercise Physiology Drummoyne, Edgecliff, Marrickville, Bella Vista, Randwick, Pymble, Bella Vista and Balmain put the spotlight on one of our clients at Pymble who has achieved amazing results!
With Anzac Day having been at the start of this week on Monday 25th April, we wanted to shine the spotlight on one of our well-loved DVA clients. We will delve into his progress with exercise physiology, why he feels exercise is important for veterans and his own experience with Longevity.
John was referred to Longevity to help improve his mental health, manage his PTSD and to improve the outcomes of his rehabilitation after having his hip replaced.
John’s goals when he first came to Longevity were to increase general fitness, improve strength and function after his hip replacement but also to improve and maintain his mental health.
We asked John why he thinks it’s important for Veterans and DVA members to exercise.
John highlighted the importance of exercise to improve and maintain functionality in all aspects of health, especially after service. The physical benefits are obviously important so that people can continue living their life to their best abilities. John strongly highlighted the effect on Mental Health that exercise has.
“There is a silent prevalence of mental health issues in veterans”
On this he said exercise physiology provides an amazing social role in improving mental health. Having the guidance through an exercise routine is important for Veterans and members of the DVA due to routine and structure.
How has your experience with Longevity been, John?
John laughed as he said, “Practicing my stand-up comedy routine with you has been great.” He then went to explain that most importantly he appreciates the guidance and confidence that training with an Exercise Physiologist gives him. The social aspect of training with the fun-loving team has helped him enjoy exercise whilst normalising chats about mental health.
“I have made progress in every aspect of health and fitness”
