What makes a great exercise professional?
You could say “an educated, certified, and experienced professional”.
Another great definition could be “an understanding and supportive mentor”.
You could probably even get away with “a sadistic individual who gets a kick outta floggin’ me”.
In truth, there’s probably a bit of each of those definitions in there (although some may have a bit more of one than the other:) Health professionals come from many different walks of life. I mean, everyone in this world is different, right? We all have different bodies, minds, personalities, strengths, weaknesses, backgrounds, habits, likes, dislikes, etc. So it makes sense to think that we all need different things. To be a great exercise professional, you need to possess certain qualities that help you understand people and how to help them. Health professionals are usually passionate about health and fitness and they draw from years of experience and apply this knowledge to use with their clients. And because of this experience most lead by example and practice what they preach.
There are many different qualities that health professionals possess that help them to do a great job. Let’s have a look at some of the most important ones.
Experience and Qualifications
Firstly they must know what they are doing. They need to have a background that they can draw experience from in relation to the type of training they are providing the client. They need qualifications, certifications, and must constantly learn new techniques to evolve as a trainer and to be registered as a health professional in the industry. This is especially important with regards to sport specific training to develop proper technique. We want to prescribe you the best service we can.
Communication Skills
You know when you meet someone and you just click? This is what we’re trying to do with our clients. We want to know what makes you tick, what you like, what you don’t like, what works, what doesn’t, and what the best way for us to help you is. We usually ask a lot of questions because we’re trying to find out as much information as we can to help us help you. The more we understand your body and mind, the better the service and result!
Being Supportive
Life has its ups and downs. As personal trainers we are here for the whole ride, we will follow you on your journey, celebrate your successes and we will support you when you fail. Let’s be honest, staying in good health is sometimes difficult otherwise we wouldn’t be going to personal trainers for help. We are here for you and we want you to succeed!
Personal training is more than just making someone sweat. It’s about building relationships. It’s about building strength, flexibility and trust. It’s learning how to become a mentor, a motivator, and a friend. It’s getting you back on your feet. It’s about hugs and high-fives. It’s finding out what makes people tick, what drives them to succeed, and, perhaps most importantly, what limits their capabilities. It’s about me knowing the best way to help you become a better personand achieve your goals.
