5 Ways To Help Your Back Pain

Today Longevity Exercise Physiology Drummoyne, EdgecliffMarrickvilleBella VistaRandwickPymble and Balmain discuss lower back pain and how exercise can form part of the treatment for this condition.

  1. Physical Therapy

There are many exercises that can relieve back pain including strengthening exercises for the surrounding muscles, spinal twists, and various stretches.

2. Ice and heat

Ice and heat can reduce the pain and inflammation on the area of concern.

3. Diaphragmatic breathing

Deep breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth has been shown to reduce low back pain [1]. Ensure you are using your diaphragm and not your chest!

4. Avoid sitting for long periods

Get moving away from your desk! Go for a 5 minute walk or clean the house!

5. Good posture

Sitting and standing with good posture supports your spine whilst taking the pressure off the surrounding muscles.
