Client Success Story: How George was able to lift without pain
Longevity Exercise Physiology Drummoyne, Edgecliff, Marrickville, Bella Vista, Randwick, Pymble, Neutral Bay and Balmain higlight another Longevity client success story!
When George* first came to our Longevity studio, he had been suffering from ongoing lower back pain at different times during the day. His GP was unable to determine a specific cause of the pain, but recommended a number of way to resolve it. With little success, he then referred Luke to Longevity Exercise Physiology to try and manage it more effectively.
Our assessment showed one area in particular we needed to work on in his program; core strength, as it was very weak. George’s* attempts at strength training in the past had resulted in flare ups and setbacks due to pain. For this reason it was important we proceeded with a careful routine, ensuring strengthening of his core muscles and hip joints without exacerbation of lower back pain.
Come to today and he is now training with nil pain and at an advanced stage of lifting (over 80kg for 10 reps for squats and deadlifts!)
With strict cueing, guidance and technique, George* gradually started to train regularly with nil flare ups in pain. He committed to 2x strength sessions a week, in addition to his own core routine at home. He listened carefully and adhered to all feedback we gave him. Come to today and he is now training with nil pain and at an advanced stage of lifting (over 80kg for 10 reps for squats and deadlifts!). The main lesson we feel here is the counterintuitive idea that injuries can actually help you improve strength long term. For it is these injuries that ensure you are even more conscious of correct technique and graded programming. The other lesson is that strength training with lower back pain can be safe, if done correctly, resulting in long term success. Well done George*!
