The Internship That’s Setting Exercise Physiology Students Apart
How It Started
A few months ago, I was scrolling through my university emails when one opportunity immediately caught my attention: Longevity Exercise Physiology’s paid internship. At the time, I had no idea that a single email would lead me to working alongside some of Australia’s most experienced EP’s, building genuine relationships with clients, and becoming part of a team that would have such a significant impact on my journey towards becoming a clinician.
Although I’m only in my first week of the internship, I’m fortunate to have already completed six weeks of university placement with Longevity. That experience made the transition into the internship feel seamless and has already shown me that this opportunity offers far more than clinical experience. It’s providing mentorship, confidence, and a level of support that is accelerating my growth as a future EP.
About me
I’m Georgie, and I’m currently in my final year of Clinical Exercise Physiology at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.
I’m passionate about improving quality of life at every stage of ageing. I’m fascinated by the connection between exercise, health, and long-term wellbeing, and I love the opportunity to help people move better, feel stronger, and live more independently through evidence-based exercise. Those values align closely with Longevity’s client-centred approach to care, making it an environment where I feel genuinely inspired to learn and grow.
Why I Said Yes to Longevity
When I first came across the internship through a university email, I was looking for an opportunity that would challenge me beyond the classroom and prepare me for life as a clinician.
What immediately stood out wasn’t just that it was a paid internship- it was Longevity’s commitment to developing students. Throughout the application process, I had the opportunity to meet several members of the senior leadership team. Every conversation reinforced the same message: students aren’t just here to observe- they’re here to learn, contribute, ask questions and be supported.
When Longevity expanded into QLD, I was fortunate to be offered an internship that fit alongside my final year of uni. That flexibility has allowed me to continue developing clinically while balancing the demands of study, making the transition into graduate practice feel both achievable and exciting.
A Team That Invests in Students
The biggest difference I’ve experienced at Longevity isn’t just the clinical exposure- it’s the people.
Before I’d even finished my placement, I already had more than 15 Longevity contacts in my phone. Exercise Physiologists, senior clinicians and leaders had all taken the time to offer advice, answer questions or simply check in to see how placement was going.
As a student, that level of support is incredibly reassuring.
Knowing there is always someone willing to answer a question, explain the “why” behind a clinical decision, or encourage you after a challenging day creates an environment where learning feels exciting rather than intimidating.
Support like that is rare, and I truly believe it’s what sets this internship apart.
The culture extends beyond the clinic walls too. I’ve even signed up to run the 2026 Bridge to Brisbane with the QLD Longevity team. It’s a small example of how quickly I’ve felt welcomed into the team and how invested everyone is in building genuine relationships, not just with clients but with each other.
Looking Ahead
Although I’m still at the beginning of my journey as a clinician, this experience has already reinforced why I chose this profession.
Every day presents a new opportunity to learn- whether that’s improving my communication and confidence, strengthening my clinical reasoning, developing leadership and collaboration skills, or gaining insight into the behind-the-scenes aspects of the profession. It’s a well-rounded experience that’s helping me grow not only as a clinician, but as a future healthcare professional.
There’s still so much I want to learn, but being surrounded by a team who genuinely invests in their students has made that growth feel fast-tracked. I’m excited to continue building my skills, learning from some of the best in the profession, and making the most of every opportunity this internship has to offer.
If there’s one thing I’ve realised already, it’s that the best internships don’t just teach you how to become a better clinician- they help shape the kind of clinician you aspire to be: one who leads with empathy and compassion, practises with confidence and evidence, and is genuinely committed to helping people live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
For me, that’s exactly what Longevity is doing, and I can’t wait to see where the rest of this journey takes me.
