How an Exercise Physiologist Can Ensure You Succeed in Making a Change

Today Longevity Exercise Physiology Drummoyne, EdgecliffMarrickvilleBella VistaRandwickPymble, Balmain, and Neutral Bay we explain how your Exercise Physiologist can assist you in making a change. Behaviour change is a huge challenge for anyone, whether it’s reducing your Coca-Cola intake or adhering to a regular exercise program. We are here to help you!

Today we will discuss the stages of behaviour change (AKA the transtheoretical model) and how you can use these techniques to excel your behaviour change process.

Stages of Change:

  1. Pre-contemplation: No plan to take action in the next 6 months time.
  2. Contemplation: Plans to take action in the next 6 months time.
  3. Preparation: Plans to take action in the next 30 days with some behavioural steps already taken.
  4. Action: Implemented the actions to take and has changed their behaviour for less than 6 months.
  5. Maintenance: Has consistently executed the action plan and is maintaining it for greater than 6 months.
  6. Termination: The behaviour is changed with confidence and no temptation to revert changes.

Your Exercise Physiologist can assist with keeping you on track throughout these stages to ensure you reach the termination stage

How can an Exercise Physiologist help?

This process unfolds over time and your Exercise Physiologist can assist with keeping you on track throughout these stages to ensure you reach the termination stage. Exercise Physiologists are trained in behaviour change and are able to encourage you to reach your goals through using the transtheoretical model.
