Joining the Blue Tsunami: Why Ben Chose Longevity
After a six day journey from Perth to Sydney, I was ready to immerse myself in a new city I would now call home. I anticipated it wouldn’t be easy to find a job that would allow me to integrate my AFL commitments and exercise physiology career so seamlessly, but luckily for me, this became a reality after meeting Longevity’s Director, Jarrat Wood, up the coast in Byron bay.
I greatly appreciated the fact that Jarrat agreed to meet with me while he was on annual leave, and one week later, I became a part of the Longevity Blue Tsunami.
Aligning Mission
Having recently graduated from University I was eager to put what I had learned into practice.
Longevity’s mission is to revolutionise healthcare by guiding all Australians to live longer, healthier lives through exercise. Longevity’s approach to Exercise Physiology allows us to improve not just lifespan, but also the health span (quality if life.) This is something that resonated with me deeply, as I believe as a young profession, we have so much more to offer.
I was excited by the opportunity to become a part of a team that is leading the way for Exercise Physiology in Australia.
Lifetime Booking System
A common theme across Exercise Physiology in Australia is to treat and discharge clients as soon as possible. However, this is just a band-aid approach. Longevity have revolutionised this idea with their “Lifetime Booking System” and have clients who have been training with Longevity for 15years plus. By focusing on more than just treatment, Longevity Exercise Physiologists are able to also help their clients with the prevention of future illness and improve function and performance. It is this ability to have a profound impact on our clients lives that drew me to Longevity.
Interview Process
After my meeting with Jarrat and learning more about the company vision and mission, as well as their points of difference, I formally applied for the role in Randwick. An unreal team culture, opportunity for career progression, a high level of support and a flexible schedule attracted me to Longevity.
Within days, I was meeting with head of Marketing and Client Experience, Georgia Wassall, and team Leader at Randwick, Ashleigh Mead. This meeting further convinced me that Longevity was the place for me.
Hearing about Georgia and Ashleigh’s tremendous career progression as well as the impact they have been able to have on their team and clients was an exciting prospect.
The Balancing Act
Having a busy schedule due to my AFL commitment with the Sydney Swans, I was unsure if I could balance work and elite level sport at the same time. However, Longevity allows for an extremely flexible schedule allowing me to fit in my football commitments and still be successful at work.
The genuine interest and support Longevity provides me for my personal goals and aspirations within and outside of work is amazing. The guidance around scheduling and how to balance work with sporting commitments exceeded my expectations and has made me feel extremely confident in pursuing both my Exercise Physiology and sporting career.
Professional Development
Another aspect that has stood out for me at Longevity is the immense amount of professional development that is made available to you. This is crucial if we want to accelerate the growth of our profession.
The professional development at Longevity is unparalleled, it ranges from development of clinical skills, relationship building, to how to successfully grow a business. This variety in professional development gives us the ability to create our own waves and be apart of the Blue Tsunami.
A Family
The strong team culture at Longevity was evident before I even officially joined the team. I was lucky enough to experience the annual work retreat within my first two weeks of being with Longevity. The four day retreat was an amazing experience where the company’s mission and values were covered in detail. However, what also stood out to me was the strong team culture.
The support and care that everyone within Longevity has for each other is truly amazing. I can confidently say that within three weeks of working at Longevity, I have made a number of lifetime friends.
My experience at Longevity has been nothing short of amazing. The support, guidance and care that I have received has been genuine and very consistent. It has been clearly evident to me while working at Longevity that there are always opportunity’s that present themselves which allow for career progression.
Longevity have a team of individuals who want to make a difference in the world, people who want to help others improve their lives through exercise.
