Exercise Physiologists are university trained health professionals who prescribe exercise as medicine for chronic disease such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease as well as muscle and joint injuries. Having studied at UNSW she has experience with cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal, spinal cord and neuromuscular diseases as well as strength and conditioning. She has also come from a background working with clientele from the Department of Veteran Affairs, Work Cover NSW and Medicare, providing the necessary tools for rehabilitation and management of chronic disease.
Since moving from the UK to Australia in 2000 she took a high interest in the active lifestyle of Australians by playing representative basketball for the Hills Hornets and Hornsby Spiders. Her other sporting involvements include yoga, soccer, jazz and Latin dance. She has always been actively involved in the gym setting from group classes to individual sessions, which has brought tremendous experience to her extensive studies to allow her to prescribe this type of exercise which she will bring to personal training sessions.
Jade specialises in musculoskeletal rehabilitation where she prescribes exercises for chronic diseases like arthritis and osteoporosis through to muscle imbalances due to injuries or postural dysfunctions. Her interest and expertise in this area developed from the love of the human body and its anatomy and the ability to change dysfunctions through exercise that cause chronic pain in an individual.
Having experienced knee pain and lower back pain in the past, she has applied these evidence-based rehabilitation techniques on herself which has shown her that the exercise science evidence stands as true and effective. Jade also believes in chronic disease management through exercise for diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
A point that is most important to her, is that even though exercise may not cure many chronic diseases, it does significantly improve the quality of life of the individual, which includes better sleep, improved mood, increased mobility and strength for normal everyday activities and improved family and friend relationships.
Jade’s greatest achievement whilst working as an exercise physiologist involved an elderly ex-service veteran who was a cancer survivor amongst other chronic diseases who could not stand for long nor walk. Within 3 months of treatment he was standing unassisted for 3mins and progressed to walking up and down his home ramp with minimal assist by 6 months.
Jade has a strong passion for exercising and having a healthy outlook on life and is motivated to share her knowledge for the wellbeing of others.
