Team Member Update: Mitch’s Powerlifting

At the beginning of coronavirus, I learned 3 days out from the Arnold Classic Strongman Championship that the event wasn’t going ahead. Weeks later I realised I wouldn’t be representing Australia at the IPF powerlifting world championships in Belarus.

Going back to the drawing board, I was lucky enough to have a garage gym setup that allowed my training to continue with only slight modifications, looking ahead to the competitions for this year. Although there is a certain amount of doubt associated with competitions going ahead, I am currently preparing for a powerlifting nationals qualifier on August 2 and a NSW strongest man qualifier on August 16.

If all goes to plan over the next 6 months I will defend my national powerlifting title and prepare to represent Australia at IFP world championships in South Africa, become NSW strongest man, throw my hat in the ring for Australia’s strongest man and have the inside track to win the Arnold Classic Strongman 2021 and become a professional strongman.

Whether successful or unsuccessful, like many others I am simply thrilled to be able to have some normalcy to look forward to.
