Revolutionising Your Approach to Health: Prioritising Future You

Longevity Exercise Physiology’s vision, to give the gift of Longevity through exercise, can only be achieved with a long-term lens on health. This long term approach is proactive and aims to empower our clients to maintain their health now and into the future.

We asked our Exercise Physiologist Grace, to explore how the Longevity approach could shift the way medicine is currently practiced around the world.

For many years, the healthcare system has encompassed a reactive approach to patients and their health, treating the problem and presenting symptoms i.e. administering medications that lower blood pressure when one is diagnosed with Hypertension or injections following an Osteoporosis diagnosis. But what if we could prevent these chronic health conditions from occurring in the first place?

As Dr Peter Attia outlined in his well-known book ‘Outlive’ there is a need to shift to ‘Medicine 3.0’ with a focus on prevention from the current medical model of ‘Medicine 2.0’ which is characterised by disease management once the health issues have already arisen.

By shifting to focus on prevention and early intervention we can strive to extend both lifespan and health span (quality of life) so that not only are we living longer but also healthier and leading more fulfilling lives.

Shifting to ‘Medicine 3.0’ will also reduce the burden of disease and overall costs on the healthcare system, with the cost of running one bed in an ICU being up to $4300 per day in Australia.

At  Longevity, we are trying to drive Australia towards medicine 3.0. We are looking to not only help our clients manage their chronic disease and injury, but also prevent future illness, and make sure that their improvements in strength and fitness translate to better quality of life outside of the gym. We achieve this by making sure our exercise sessions are individualised to each clients unique needs and goals. We encourage our clients to think beyond ‘now’ and look into the future.

By setting long and short term health and fitness goals, our clients are always working to better themselves. These goals go beyond the confines of the gym to encompass activities such as hiking, travelling and engaging in activities with grandchildren. We believe it is never too early, (or too late,) to set goals for how you want to be moving and what you want to be doing in your 70s, 80s and 90s. We will work with you, every step of the way to ensure consistency and accountability to work towards these goals.

This unique, long-term approach to health that we utilise at Longevity is revolutionary within the healthcare system and can reduce the burden of disease. We are dedicated to enhancing both lifespan and health span through individualised exercise so our clients live longer, healthier and happier lives with the best quality of life.
