The team at Longevity Exercise Physiology Drummoyne, EdgecliffMarrickvilleBella VistaRandwick, PymbleBalmain and Neutral Bay  firmly believes that working with other Allied Health Professionals is extremely important. Collaboration with Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, General Practitioners, and other health specialists allows us to ensure our clients are receiving the best holistic care.

Creating these relationships allows us to draw on the specialised knowledge from each profession. This helps us to tailor our client’s treatment, making the program most suitable for them and giving them the best chance for optimal outcomes.

An example of one of these relationships is with our Pymble location and Tensegrity Sports Clinic in Wahroonga. Grayson and one of their Chiropractors, Mel, have had a few meetings to create a referral relationship and to learn how clients could best benefit from collaborative care between our professions.

These meetings have been widely beneficial. The pair talked through many important topics including: their approach to treatment, their own background of exercise and why they got into the industry, clinical interests, and specialities. During their chat, they discussed why they think it’s important for allied health professionals to work together when treating clients.

Grayson:

“I think it’s really important for health professionals to work together in client care. I think every profession has value in treating a client and that value increases when we combine our strategies together. I like to think of the old saying “two brains are better than one” but combining two brains that are experts in different parts of health”

Mel:

“Collaboration between allied health professionals ultimately means better care for our patients.

You wouldn’t call an electrician to fix a burst pipe, just like you wouldn’t see a dentist for hip pain. While key principles and applied techniques differ between allied health, the core purpose of our professions stays the same – to help reduce pain and improve overall health and wellbeing.

By working together to understand a patient’s needs and circumstances, practitioners from different disciplines can lean on each other’s strengths to achieve the best care and outcomes.”

Mel was kind enough to invite Grayson for an initial consultation to help him have a true experience of a client. Having another health professional demonstrate their knowledge and skills not only demonstrates what value they can bring to a client’s treatment, but it gives you confidence that they will take great care of the client. Mel will be coming to observe a session at Longevity in Pymble to continue fostering this relationship.

I like to think of the old saying “two brains are better than one” but combining two brains that are experts in different parts of health”

Grayson:

“Mel’s knowledge and clinical skills were awesome; she truly is thorough and after being a client myself, I know she will take greatly benefit any client I send her way”

To summarise, collaboration between health professionals means expert knowledge will be contributed by all parties which can make the client’s overall treatment more effective. When all health professionals have the same outcome goals for the client’s health, they can work together to target these and reach them more effectively.
