Courtney Maher

Accredited Exercise Physiologist

Bio

Courtney has a passion for movement and believes it is never too late to start. Growing up, she competed in dance and rhythmic gymnastics, representing NSW in the State Rhythmic Gymnastics Team and competing at the Australian National Gymnastics Championships. Whilst completing her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Courtney competed for the UNSW Cheer and Dance Society in the Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Pom teams and now teachings classes for the society. To compliment her EP work, Courtney has also completed her Certification in Matwork Pilates. She values the principles taught in Pilates to help people strengthen stabilising muscles, improve mind body awareness and develop control from the centre out.

Courtney’s background in competitive sport and experience managing her own injuries and hypermobility is what drives her passion and appreciation for the impact of regular strength, mobility and aerobic exercise. She knows how hard it is to not be able to do things you love and once did easily but has experienced first-hand the positive impact of individualised exercise on preventing and managing chronic injuries and conditions.

Having practiced for over 4 years in a gym-based setting, Courtney enjoys seeing a wide range of clients and getting to know them like friends. She has a special interest for arthritis (particularly rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis), multiple sclerosis and musculoskeletal conditions involving the shoulders, hips and knees. She also enjoys working with beginners to the gym, young adults and adolescents. She knows gyms can be intimidating and values the importance of setting someone up with the skills and confidence to make exercise a lifelong habit.

In her downtime, you’ll find Courtney enjoying long walks, dance classes, yoga, pilates and trying her best at touch football. As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Courtney’s goal is to help people find an exercise routine that not only achieves their goals, but is something they enjoy, look forward to and see the benefit in. She is a caring, calm and expert listener, who will always try to bring laughter in to your sessions!

As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist Courtney’s drive is to use the best available evidence for exercise and lifestyle prescription, to help others live their healthiest life.
