Client Success Story: Amber’s Journey From Daily Walks to the City2Surf Start Line

Six months ago, the idea of running 14km’s was unimaginable for Amber. Like many others, she began her journey simply by walking and training for her physical and mental health. Lacking confidence around exercise and battling previous ankle sprains, her goal was simple: move more and feel better. But with the right support and a gradual, tailored approach, she’s gone from hesitant steps to standing at the start line of Sydney’s iconic City2Surf – feeling stronger, fitter, and more empowered than ever.

The First Step: Just Start Moving

When Amber first joined Longevity, her goal wasn’t to become a runner. It was to regain control over her body, reduce gym anxiety’s, and increase her self confidence in her body. With the guidance of her Exercise Physiologist, her training started small – twice weekly sessions focused on low-impact strength work, slow running intervals, and functional mobility. Slowly, she began to notice improvements in her confidence and overall well-being.

As she built momentum, her mindset began to shift. She was no longer just exercising for health – she started dreaming bigger. When she found out Longevity was joining the City 2 Surf – it was the perfect opportunity to work towards a big goal.

A New Goal: Running the City2Surf

With a new challenge in mind, Amber’s sessions became more focused. She increased her training to three times per week and began following a City2Surf-specific plan developed by her EP. The plan included a mix of running intervals, resistance training to support her joints, and recovery work to ensure she avoided injury. Each session was tailored to her needs and progress.

But training for a race isn’t just about the physical work—especially if you’re new to running. That’s where Longevity’s holistic approach made all the difference.

More Than Just Training

In addition to building strength and endurance, she received education around:

  • How to fuel her body properly for training and race day
  • Tapering techniques to allow her body to recover and peak at the right time
  • Choosing the right gear, including proper running shoes and attire for comfort and performance
  • Managing mindset and nerves leading into the event

All of this preparation has left her feeling ready—not just physically, but mentally too.

Running With the Longevity Family

One of the most powerful parts of Amber’s journey has been doing it with community. She’s not running the City2Surf alone. She’ll be part of the Longevity wave, surrounded by other clients, EPs, and team members who’ve trained, encouraged, and inspired one another every step of the way.

Whether you’re walking, jogging, or running, being part of a team transforms the experience. It’s not just about crossing the finish line—it’s about sharing the journey with people who believe in you.
