Leading a Balanced Lifestyle

Feeling tired? Overworked? Uninspired, unhealthy, complacent, or ‘stuck in a rut’? If you have answered yes to one or more of these, there’s a big chance that you are NOT leading a balanced lifestyle, and you need to make some changes!

Leading a balanced lifestyle is about giving yourself the necessary things to nurture your mind, body and soul. It is about physical, mental, and spiritual health. We need a variety in our daily, weekly, monthly and yearly routines to be the best that we can be for ourselves, our relationships with our family, friends and peers, our productivity and ability at work, our growth and skill acquisition, our inner peace and general sense of wellbeing and happiness. Here are some ways and ideas to help you on your path to leading a balanced lifestyle.

Leading a Balanced Lifestyle

Physical Health

Exercise

Regular exercise is an extremely important part of leading a balanced lifestyle. Strength, flexibility and pain free range of movement all contribute to increasing and maintaining your quality of life. Variety is also important as our bodies get used to routines and the positive effects of the workout decrease. Combining cardiovascular, strength, balance and flexibility training with variety is guaranteed to have a great positive effect on your physical (and therefore mental and spiritual) health. (*thats where your personal trainer comes in!!) The amount of exercise you need varies from person to person, but at least three hours of moderate to high intensity work each week is needed to maintain a good level of physical health.

Sleep

This is also super important for us to perform at our highest potential. It is one of the most neglected aspects of our health, and deficiencies can lead to decreases in concentration, coordination, judgement, cause mood swings and depression, and generally lower our potential for success. Most people require around 8 hours of sleep per night, though this varies from person to person.

Diet

The food we eat is one of if not the most important aspect of our physical health, and assists hugely in leading a balanced lifestyle. We are what we eat, so if you are eating healthy you will be healthy, and if you eat crap, well…. you know the answer! Variety and balance in your diet is important so that you can have the correct intake of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, fats and sugars that your body needs for optimal internal and external health.

Mental Health

Set goals

It’s great to have a plan. Setting goals will help you organise yourself in order to accomplish what you want to achieve. A journey is made up of a thousand steps, so it’s good to set short, mid and long term goals to keep you motivated and to know where you’re at on your journey.

Read, Write and Learn

To achieve our goals, we must educate ourselves. Reading books, writing down ideas and learning new skills puts us in the fast lane to achieving success.

Relaxation

We all need to take time out to do relax and do what we love. I like to call this ‘downtime’. Whether it’s playing a game, a sport, a hobby, socialising with friends or just lying on the couch and watching a movie, we all need to devote time to ourselves to do what we want to do simply because we enjoy it.

Spiritual Health

Prayer/meditation

These are great practices for focusing energy, inner reflection, visualisation and clearing the mind. Many people gain strength, inspiration, peace and enlightenment through the use of prayer and/or meditation to increase the frequency of their vibrational energy and take them to ‘the next level’. This is highly recommended in leading a balanced lifestyle.

Nature

Getting back to nature is very important to remind us that we are connected to the earth, and its all too easy to become detached from it when you live in a big city like Sydney. If you can’t remember the last time you went camping, for a bush walk, a swim in the ocean or even got your hands dirty, you need to get out of the city and connect yourself back to the source of life.

Love

Love who you are and what you do. Be nice to yourself and others, show love and get love back. Hug your friends, kiss your partner, walk your dog, get creative, dance and lose yourself in the moment. Don’t be scared. Seize the day!

We are always here to help you. If you need help with anything please don’t hesitate to let us know. We have a great working relationship with health professionals from all areas so if we can’t help you ourselves, we know someone who can!
